And, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Bring the kids by the store to pick up a Halloween Treat! We’ve got pinwheels, stickers and more to choose from!
Have a Boo-tiful day!
Happy Halloween! Oh gosh, well, I guess it’s not quite Halloween yet, but what’s wrong in celebrating a bit early! We’ve been reading spooky, halloween-ish books all month, and today’s review is no exception. Mysteries, ghosts, haunted houses, weird relatives, this one’s got it all! The review is below, but hey, before you read the review – don’t forget to swing by the store tomorrow (in costume, of course!) to get a Halloween Prize! Pinwheels, stickers, who knows what ghoulish ware you’ll go home with!
Ok, on with the book review, brought to you by our very own book expert, Chrissy!
This is the first of a fun series sure to be a hit with spirited and sassy girls, and mystery fans alike! Thirteen-year-old Gilda Joyce is a self styled Psychic Investigator. Armed with her Master Psychics Handbook, her trusty typewriter (previously owned by her father, Nicholas Joyce, now deceased), her finely honed intuition and impeccable fashion sense, Gilda sets out to solve mysteries…one haunting at a time!
In this first book of the series, after wrangling a trip to San Francisco to visit with relatives, Gilda discovers just how much her stiff and mysterious cousin and his delicate daughter need her help to uncover a dark family secret that has a tortured ghost haunting their home. Recommended for ages 8+.
Have a spook-tacular day!

Thank you so much for your feedback.
We really appreciate it.
Also, this Jumping Joey just showed up in the store! Put the balls in its’ pouch, then open the velcro flap to retrieve them! Plus, her ears and tail are crinkle fabric! So much cuteness, we wish we had a baby to buy this for right this minute!
Have a magnificent day!
This a classic that we finally have back in the store! Push the keys or use the mallets to play the color-coded song sheets. This is a great introduction instrument for even the smallest of hands! Plus, everything stores inside the instrument!
This 2 in 1 ride on toy is a great tricycle alternative. Starting at 9 months use the bike as a walking aid, then around 1 year, when baby’s legs are a little longer, sit on the seat to use the bike as a ride on. Available in red or blue. Oh, and don’t forget to download free games and exercises from Ybike’s website.
Little guys need chalkboards, they’re just simple fun that everyone should be so lucky to take part in. This one is fun to draw on, and it looks so awesome on the wall!
And, by the way, our friend Amy Vining is hosting a Kids’ Halloween Party at her studio! Check Amy’s website for more details.
Have a fun day!
We’re still into Halloween books around here; ghosts, psychic-teenage-private detectives, monsters, giant pumpkins, and more. Today’s story is part of the Zen Shorts series. John J. Muth writes beautiful stories based on Japanese folk tales. Lovely stories, good morals and beautiful illustrations. Check out more below!
Stillwater Panda is back with a ghost story for Halloween! It is Halloween and after the children go trick-or-treating, Stillwater tells them a spooky tale. Based on an ancient Zen koan, Senjo and Her Soul Are Separated, the story is about a woman who is pulled in two different directions- with a surprising result! It is a simple ghost story at heart, but also deals with a subject that happens in our everyday lives.
As Jon J. Muth states in his afterword,
“I wanted to offer this story to children because at a very young age we discover questions about duality. There is the me I am with my parents, the me I am with my friends, and there is another me with a different group of my friends.. When our hearts are taken in two different directions, where are we?”
Read this with your little ones! Interesting conversation is sure to follow. Recommended for ages 5+.
Have an insightful day!
